The Summer at City Hall program is a six-week summer program taught by certified high school teachers with an emphasis on teaching civic engagement and youth development through interactive and small group classes. Classroom learning sessions are Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM -12:00 PM and are located at New City Hall and Historic City Hall. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Students will be required to complete a 42-hour internship in addition to the classroom learning sessions. Internship assignments, location, work days and hours are to be determined when program starts.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Summer at City Hall (S@CH) program is a collaboration between the City of Sacramento, Sacramento City Unified School District,Twin Rivers School District, Natomas Unified School District, and WayUp Sacramento. The program is open to all current high school sophomores and juniors of the 2018-2019 school year. Upon completion of the program students will receive 5 high school credits and a stipend.
WHO ARE THE RETURNING YOUTH
Returning youth are graduates of the Summer at City Hall program from previous years and return to help aide and provide support for the current program year. The Summer at City Hall returning youth are youth leaders that are passionate and motivated to help other youth succeed. They demonstrate leadership, responsibility, and commitment by being a role model to the current program students. Summer at City Hall returning youth demonstrate leadership and mentoring skills through small group discussions, assistance in the classroom, daily coordination of meals, administrative duties and reporting, and assisting teachers in the classroom along with program staff on daily assignments and other job duties assigned. They are an integral part of the Summer at City Hall Team.
