Summer Matters is Sacramento City Unified School District’s comprehensive summer learning program designed to provide students with engaging academic, enrichment, and youth development opportunities during the summer months. The program helps reduce summer learning loss, strengthen academic skills, and prepare students for success in the upcoming school year.

Serving students from Transitional Kindergarten through high school, Summer Matters offers a variety of programs tailored to different grade levels and learning needs, including Elementary, Middle School, Extended School Year (ESY), High School Credit Recovery, Community Site Programs, and Summer at City Hall. Students participate in academic instruction, hands-on enrichment activities, physical fitness, social-emotional learning, leadership development, and opportunities to build positive relationships with peers and caring adults.

The 2026 Summer Matters program operates primarily from June 22 through July 17, with select community-based programs continuing through July 31. Programs are offered at multiple school and community locations throughout Sacramento, allowing students and families access to high-quality summer experiences close to home. All participating students receive free daily meals as part of the program.

Summer Matters reflects SCUSD’s commitment to ensuring that every student has access to safe, enriching, and engaging learning opportunities that support academic growth, student wellness, and college and career readiness throughout the summer.
